Hepatitis C Hero's

In the journey to out the cover up of Contaminated Blood Hepatitis C Infections there have been many Hero's and we try to list these worthies here.


No group have suffered more or done more to raise the profile of the huge consequences of a contaminated blood outbreak in the UK than Tainted Blood. Working to reveal the disaster as it has killed nearly half their number our hemophilia community has never given up the struggle for the truth to come out.  In the history of British medicine never has so much been suffered by so few and been done by so few to alert so many in a nation to a danger.

Anita Roddick was infected with Hepatitis C during childbirth, like thousands of other mothers.  Young mums faced risks from transfusions and also blood products up until 1993.
Bravely she raised the profile of the disaster for mothers and c section mothers especially.  She was searching for a liver transplant at the time of her death.
Lord David Owen was a Secretary of State for Health at the height of the infectious period in the Eighties, he repeatedly tried to speed improvements in transfusion hygiene. His entire catalogue of Ministerial notes relating to our Contaminated Blood Disaster was broken into and destroyed. He has repeatedly called for both media and legal powers to properly investigate Transfusion Hepatitis C Infections in the UK.

Another Former Secretary of State for Health, Patrick bravely told the Archer Inquiry of his knowledge that all the files pertaining to Contaminated Hepatitis C Blood Transfusions had been knowingly destroyed at the time the NHS settled its HIV cases out of court.  Patrick testified he found our numbers for NHS infections of Hepatitis C via transfusions compelling and also stated to Lord Archer that he felt Hepatitis C was mainly a consequence of transfusions.
